Patina can mean any aging process that causes natural discoloration or fading. For instance, over time you may see darker spots develop on the copper cup or business card holder. The metal reacts with the oils on your hands and the oxygen in the air. This change in texture and sheen is what we refer to as ‘living finish’.
Copper is a living finish and it will patina with time and with use. We consider this part of the special charm of owning a genuine copper item. If you prefer the shiny ‘new’ look of the copper, it can be polished with the included complimentary Cape Cod copper cleaning pad (which lasts for multiple applications if stored in a plastic ziploc bag).
Additionally, our friends and collaborators at Sertodo Copper share special copper cleaning tips and tricks which you can see here.
